Million Mangroves Plantation Campaign

The ‘Forest for Breath’ campaign protects green and blue carbon at home and abroad. In Korea, it is creating urban forests by planting honey trees that provide a rich source of nectar for bees. In the ocean, it is also working to restore the marine ecosystem by planting japonica, which absorbs carbon. Since 2015, it has planted 365,000 mangroves in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar and Cambodia, starting in the Sundarbans of Bangladesh, home to the world’s largest mangrove forest. Mangroves represent major blue carbon ecological value, in that they not only absorb carbon relative to their area better than green carbon, but they also serve as a habitat for a variety of organisms. Additionally, they protect local residents from climate disasters such as tsunamis, and residents make a living by collecting forest products such as mangrove honey and fruits.

So we suggest: Planting mangroves as the most important action we can take to combat the climate crisis. We are launching the ‘Campaign for Planting 1 Million Mangrove Trees’ where individuals and companies concerned about climate, environment and ecology can join together.
